H&R BLOCK TURNS TAX FILING INTO FUNDRAISING
Tax Time Gives Local Non-Profits a Financial Boost
September 3, 2009
Lakewood, NJ – H&R Block’s Non-Profit Referral Program generated $750.00 for local non-profits this year including organizations such as Community Lighthouse in Lakewood and the United Church of Christ in Toms River. The program awarded area non-profits with $25 for each new client they referred to H&R Block for tax preparation.
“This year, nearly 900 charitable organizations nationwide received a donation from H&R Block through our Non-Profit Referral program,” said Barbara Cataldo, district manager. “Giving back is part of H&R Block’s culture. Whether it’s free tax advice, a community service project or a financial donation, H&R Block invests in the communities we serve.”
Non-profit organizations often see charitable donations increase toward the end of the year as taxpayers maximize their yearly tax deduction for donations. This program provides area non-profits with an opportunity to raise funds at the beginning of the year when private donations traditionally decline.
Across the country, more than 3,800 non-profit organizations enrolled in the Non-Profit Referral Program, resulting in an H&R Block donation of nearly $350,000. Most 501(c)(3) organizations such as schools, little leagues and food pantries, are eligible for the program. Organizations may sign-up now to benefit next year by contacting their local H&R Block office.
